I'm a UNIX Sysadmin, specializing in Solaris and Linux. We should ALL know this stuff, but sometimes a trick or tip slips by, so every time I teach someone a neat trick (or someone teaches me a neat trick) it'll get shared here.

Remember kids...

Running out of inodes on a filesystem is just as bad as running out of actual disk space.

Regular linux is easy to check this, but unless you wrangle Solaris a lot, you'll actually have to check a manpage:

$ df -F ufs -o i
